Google has announced that the desktop version of Chrome will soon feature several new capabilities designed to enhance user experience. Leveraging "the latest Google AI and Gemini models ," these updates aim to streamline browsing and improve productivity. Here’s an overview of what’s on the horizon.

Tab Compare
Navigating through numerous tabs to compare products online can be a tedious task. Chrome’s forthcoming 'Tab Compare' feature will address this by providing an AI-generated summary of items across multiple tabs. For instance, if you’re researching smartwatches and have details scattered across several tabs, Chrome will create a comparison table with specs, features, ratings, and prices consolidated in a single view. This will enable more informed purchasing decisions.

Search History Using Natural Language
Recovering information from your browsing history can be tricky, especially if a tab was closed accidentally or you need to revisit a page from earlier. Google is set to introduce a feature that allows users to query their browsing history in "a more natural, conversational way with the help of AI." Instead of manually sifting through history, users can ask questions like "What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?" This feature will be optional and will exclude data from incognito mode.

Google Lens Comes to Chrome
Google Lens, known for its visual search capabilities, is making its way to Chrome’s desktop version. Soon, users will be able to "easily select, search and ask questions about anything you see on the web, all without leaving your current tab." To utilize Google Lens, simply click the colorful camera icon on the address bar and select or drag the items you wish to search. Additionally, Lens can be activated through right-clicking or the three-dot menu. Users will have the option to refine searches using multisearch features like "search by color, brand, or another detail" and pose follow-up questions.
