WhatsApp to Introduce Group Creation Without Adding Contacts: Here’s What You Need to Know

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to create groups without the need to add any contacts or members initially. This update will make it possible to form a group and gradually invite members by sharing a group link or an invitation, rather than having to add them directly at the outset.

While this might not sound like a major change at first glance, it significantly simplifies the process of forming groups on the platform, making it more flexible and user-friendly.

WhatsApp Groups Without Contacts: The New Feature

The details about this feature were first shared by WaBetaInfo, who revealed that it’s currently being tested in the WhatsApp 2.25.14.12 beta version for Android. Users can expect the feature to roll out in the stable version in the near future.

WhatsApp’s move to eliminate the requirement of adding a contact immediately is aimed at streamlining group creation. Until now, WhatsApp groups could only be created after adding at least one contact. With this upcoming change, users will be able to create a group with just themselves as the initial member, and invite others later on.

This new approach to WhatsApp groups enhances their functionality beyond just messaging. It allows users to store media, documents, and links in a group format, similar to how the “Message Myself” feature works. This update will likely make WhatsApp groups even more useful, especially for work and family scenarios.

WhatsApp's Privacy and Security Measures

In addition to these updates, WhatsApp has also confirmed its privacy plans for AI chat features, promising robust security measures similar to those employed by Apple. Meta has opted to set up a private computing cloud system that aims to balance both privacy and functionality, ensuring that your data remains secure while being processed in the cloud.
