WhatsApp has recently introduced a new feature called 'Channel alerts,' alongside ongoing tests for a reply feature, according to a report by WABetainfo . This update, labelled as 2.23.20.9, is currently available for beta users on Android.

The channel alerts feature is designed to keep channel creators informed about the status of their channels , especially when they face restrictions in specific countries due to local laws. This move aims to help WhatsApp comply with legal requirements that necessitate content restrictions within certain regions.

WhatsApp will now notify channel creators if their channel's visibility is restricted in any particular country or countries due to legal obligations. Consequently, users with phone numbers associated with those countries will no longer be able to access or follow the restricted channel.

Regarding the upcoming reply feature for channel updates , WABetainfo has spotted this functionality in a future app update. This new feature will enable followers to respond to channel updates, enhancing the interactivity of the platform. A reply indicator will appear next to the reaction bubble, indicating the number of replies a specific channel update has received. Similar to the privacy features in the Channels app, this feature will also ensure the protection of users' phone numbers when they reply to a channel update.

The introduction of these features is significant as it enhances the discussion capabilities within WhatsApp channels . Users will have an additional tool to engage with other followers and actively participate in channel conversations by sharing their thoughts and opinions. This development transforms WhatsApp channels into a new platform for discussing channel content.
