WhatsApp Introduces Enhanced Photo Sharing: HD Images Now Possible
In a recent announcement, Meta 's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg , revealed an enhanced photo- sharing feature for WhatsApp that allows users to send photos in high definition (HD) quality. Zuckerberg took to Facebook to share the news, stating, "Sharing photos on WhatsApp just got an upgrade -- now you can send in HD," and accompanied the post with a video demonstration.
WhatsApp clarified that the default setting for photo quality will remain as standard quality for images sent within the app. However, if a user receives a photo on WhatsApp while having limited bandwidth connectivity, they have the flexibility to choose whether to retain the standard version or upgrade it to HD quality on a photo-by-photo basis.
The rollout of the HD Photos feature will be global and is expected to take place over the upcoming weeks. Additionally, WhatsApp users can also look forward to the introduction of HD Videos in the near future.
Zuckerberg's Prior Feature Announcement:
Screen Sharing during Video Calls Earlier in the same month, Zuckerberg had introduced another innovative feature, allowing users to share their screens while engaged in video calls on WhatsApp. He explained, "We're adding the ability to share your screen during a video call on WhatsApp." This functionality enables users to display a live view of their screen during the call, which could include sharing work-related documents, browsing photos with family, planning trips, or even shopping online with friends.
Moreover, users can now partake in video calls in Landscape mode, providing a wider and more immersive viewing and sharing experience on their mobile devices.
Recent Launch: WhatsApp Video Messages
Notably, Meta had announced the launch of video messages on WhatsApp in the previous month. This feature enables users to record and directly share brief personal videos within their chats.
Sending a video message on WhatsApp is a straightforward process. Users switch to video mode and hold to record the video. Swipe up to lock and record hands-free. When a video message is opened in a chat, it will play automatically on mute, with sound starting upon tapping the video. Importantly, these video messages are safeguarded with end-to-end encryption, ensuring the security of users' messages.
