WhatsApp, an immensely popular messaging app in India and many other regions, has unfortunately become a breeding ground for scams and malicious activities. With its widespread use, scammers have devised new tactics to deceive unsuspecting users, aiming to gain access to sensitive information or hijack WhatsApp accounts.

1. Beware of Lucrative Offers:
Scammers often lure victims with enticing offers, sometimes even providing initial funds to build trust. Once the victim is invested, the scammers vanish, leaving behind financial losses and compromised data. Remember the old adage: if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Exercise caution and scepticism when approached with such offers on WhatsApp.

2. The iPhone Giveaway Scam :
Have you ever received a WhatsApp forward promising a new iPhone 15 if you share the message with five people, along with their email IDs? This is a common ploy to collect email IDs and passwords. Never trust these giveaways or links that request personal information.

3. Fake Banking Apps and Phishing:
Scammers employ advanced techniques, modifying banking application APKs with malicious code. They may pose as banking agents, contacting you through fake phishing websites and asking you to install an app for support. Never install apps or share sensitive banking information in such situations, as it is undoubtedly a scam. This tactic has also been used in various other scams.

4. International Calls:
An influx of calls from overseas has become prevalent. If you receive such calls, it's best not to answer them. Instead, report and block them immediately. WhatsApp has taken measures to combat these calls, but being cautious is essential.

5. Avoid Clicking on Random Links:
Hackers and cybercriminals often send infected links to users. Clicking on these links can lead to phishing websites or malware infecting your device. When a random number sends you a link or pressures you to take immediate action, exercise caution. They might be attempting to scam you.

To safeguard yourself from these scams:
Enable security features like two-factor authentication for WhatsApp.
Avoid clicking on links or sharing personal documents and information with unknown contacts.

In an age of digital interconnectedness, staying vigilant and cautious is your best defence against WhatsApp scams and other online threats.
