WhatsApp users have been enjoying a steady stream of new features, enhancing the app's utility and security. One notable addition introduced by Meta was the ability to lock chats, providing an extra layer of security beyond device biometrics. This feature has been particularly appreciated by users seeking to safeguard their conversations from prying eyes.
However, until now, this functionality has been limited to individual mobile devices, leaving linked devices unprotected. Recognising this gap, WhatsApp is set to expand the chat lock feature to linked devices, as reported by WABetaInfo .
According to the report, once implemented, chats locked on the main device will automatically be secured on linked devices as well. This synchronisation ensures consistent protection across all devices, enhancing user privacy and security.
To unlock these chats on either the linked device or the main device, users will need to enter the secret code set up during the initial locking process.
As for the rollout timeline, the feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.4.14 update. However, there's no precise indication of when it will be available to the general public. The feature is still under development and is expected to be included in a future app update.
