WhatsApp's Latest Update Includes Discord-inspired voice chat feature: Learn How to Access
WhatsApp is introducing an innovative voice chat feature that improves the experience of voice calls in large groups.
The new voice chat feature differs from traditional group calls by not triggering notifications for all participants.
It will send a push notification and display an in-chat bubble that users can tap to join.
This functionality, akin to Discord, aims to simplify communication within large groups while enabling users to text concurrently.
Voice chat management and security measures for communication.
To initiate a voice chat, go to the group chat and tap the icon resembling a soundwave located in the top right corner of the screen.
All call controls can be accessed from the chat bubble at the top of the screen, and you can view the participants who have joined there.
Voice chats will have the capacity to accommodate up to 32 participants and will feature end-to-end encryption.
This improvement brings WhatsApp in line with platforms such as Discord, Telegram, and Slack, all of which also facilitate similar types of conversations.
In the next few weeks, WhatsApp is set to launch its global voice chat feature on both Android and iOS platforms, starting with groups that have 33 or more members.
The addition of this feature follows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's disclosure a few weeks ago during the company's Q3 earnings call. He mentioned that users and businesses have more than 600 million interactions daily across Meta's platforms.
In Q3, the suite of applications and additional revenue streams generated $293 million, marking a 53% year-over-year growth. This notable increase was predominantly fueled by the success of WhatsApp Business.
