YouTube has unveiled a new tool called Family Center , aimed at helping parents monitor their children's YouTube activity through shared notifications and insights . The platform announced on Wednesday, September 4, that the feature will begin rolling out globally this week.

“This new experience is designed to keep parents informed about their teens ’ channel activity on YouTube and help them provide encouragement and advice on responsible content creation,” stated YouTube.

Through the Family Center , parents can link their accounts with their teens ’ YouTube profiles, allowing them to view insights such as the number of uploads, subscriptions, and comments made by their children.

Additionally, parents will receive email notifications when their teens upload videos or begin livestreams on their channels.

“YouTube continues to develop these features with the guidance of independent experts in child development, digital learning, and children’s media, including individuals from academia, nonprofits, and clinical fields,” the platform added.

YouTube also highlighted the growing popularity of its youth-oriented platforms like YouTube Kids, which boasts over 100 million active monthly users, both logged-in and logged-out. In November of last year, YouTube introduced new protections for teens, such as reducing repeated recommendations of videos that promote harmful body comparisons or display social aggression.
