YouTube Music Explores 'Samples' Tab For Music Video-Focused Shorts

NEW DELHI: Google's YouTube, the popular video-sharing platform, is reportedly conducting tests on a new feature called 'Samples' in its YouTube Music app. This feature is expected to showcase music video-focused Shorts , which are vertical videos.

Currently, the YouTube Music app's bottom bar on Android and iOS consists of Home, Explore, and Library options.
However, it seems that YouTube is experimenting with a new tab positioned between the main feed and the discovery/trending section.

According to sources, this new 'Samples' tab will display vertical music videos. Interestingly, YouTube has decided not to use the YT Shorts icon in the bottom bar. Instead, users will encounter two overlapping play buttons.

The bottom section of the screen will provide album art, song titles, and artist information, while the right edge will contain buttons for liking, adding to playlists, accessing Shorts, sharing, and potentially playing the selected content. The top-left corner of the screen will continue to feature the YT Music logo, as stated in the report.

It remains uncertain whether the content showcased in the 'Samples' tab will be exclusively YouTube Shorts or simply music videos presented in a vertical format. Further clarification is required to confirm this detail.

In other news, YouTube has recently announced its plan to implement 30-second non-skippable advertisements on connected TVs (CTVs). This change will replace the current practice of playing two consecutive 15-second ads. In a blog post, YouTube stated that introducing longer non-skippable ads on larger screens, such as CTVs, is in line with advertisers' objectives and allows for more immersive storytelling experiences.
