Nikam shielded RSS-backed cop who killed Karkare: Wadettiwar

Nagpur: Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra legislative assembly Vijay Wadettiwar dropped a bombshell, claiming Hemant Karkare, former chief of state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), was not killed by Pakistani terrorists during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Instead, Wadettiwar alleged, Karkare was shot by a police official allegedly affiliated to RSS, and noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, currently a BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Mumbai North Central constituency, suppressed evidence to protect the accused.

Hemant Karkare, who died in the 26/11 attacks, was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry decoration. “Nikam is not a lawyer, but a traitor. Karkare was not killed by bullets of terrorists like Ajmal Kasab, but by the bullet of a cop close to the Sangh. Nikam suppressed this evidence before the special court to save the officer,” Wadettiwar told TOI.
