NMC starts pothole repair work across city

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation ( NMC ) has undertaken the work of filling in potholes across the city on a war-footing.

The standing committee chairman had set a deadline for the civic administration to complete the repair work by the end of this month.

Potholes have resurfaced following unseasonal rains last month.

The Public Works Department (PWD) of the NMC conducted a fresh survey and found over 8,000 potholes across the city.

Uddhav Nimse, the NMC standing committee chairman, conducted a review meeting with the PWD officials and directed them to make all the city roads pothole-free by November end.

Nimse also directed that dividers and side-strips of the roads be cleaned too.

“We have already started filling potholes on city roads across all divisions of the municipal corporation. Potholes are being filled by tar and the work will be completed in the next few days before the November deadline,” said an NMC official.

Irked over the poor condition of roads, motorists demanded that the civic administration carry out fresh repair work. Some motorists also complained of backache and knee pain caused due to constant travel through the potholed stretch.

The municipal corporation recently fixed the potholes with tar materials, but continuous rain in the second half of October caused potholes to reappear.

Huge potholes have resurfaced in the six divisions of municipal corporation. The worst-affected roads are at Chandak Circle, the stretch between Bytco Point and Upanagar, Satpur-Ambad link Road, Sarda Circle, Mico Circle, Kamatwade, Upnagar and Panchawati area of the city.

Moreover, the condition of most internal roads in Ambad and Satpur industrial estates is also poor.

The NMC administration decided to start the road repair work after November 10 following the forecast of stopping of rain by November 9.

The civic body had filled in 26,000 potholes by October end. Officials said as they used murum to fill in potholes during the monsoon, they had to fix the same pothole twice or thrice.
