Nominees turn to astrologers to correct 'fault' in their stars

Bhubaneswar: As the process of filing nominations is in full swing, astrologers and priests are in great demand as politicians are consulting them not only for a favourable time to file nomination but also to know the colour of clothes, vehicles and direction in which they will step out to do so.

Many are also holding special pujas, wearing special stones and conducting yagnas to remove any obstacles which may come in the way.

Apart from auspicious date, time, direction and colours, many politicians are holding special pujas like Chunav Bijay and Trailokya Bijay to ensure success in the elections.

“To win, the position of Sani, Rahu, and Bruhaspati of candidates is crucial. Depending on the position of the stars, we also provide them with solutions,” said Deepak Acharya, a city-based astrologer.

Astrologers, numerologists, vastu consultants have their hands full with requests for elaborate puja. Politicians are spending lakhs of rupees to do these pujas to remove roadblocks, astrologers said.

“Almost 99% politicians conduct different types of pujas to win elections. Starting from special puja of Maa Kali to Bagalamukhi puja to various havans, wearing stones and donations, politicians do them all. Some pujas continue for months where the politicians assign a close aide or family member to represent them in the puja while they remain busy campaigning,” said Trinandan Mishra, a prominent astrologer and Vastu consultant.

Mishra said following the success rate of his clients in 2014 and 2019 elections, he has been conducting special puja for as many as 80 candidates from Odisha and outside the state this year.

“Besides special pujas, gemstones and numerology are also much in demand ahead of the elections. After consulting their astrologers, many politicians are placing orders for special gemstones fitted in finger rings, bracelets and lockets. They are ready to pay extra for urgent delivery,” said Subrat Panda, a gemstone dealer in the city.
