North Goa cabbies back on roads

Calangute/Saligao: The statewide taxi strike that began last Saturday, fizzled out after the North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners’ Association (NGTTOA) on Friday said taxi drivers were free to operate their cabs.

President Vasudev Arlekar said the NGTTOA decided to resume operations after discussions with chief minister Pramod Sawant .

He said members of the association had reiterated their request that the app-based cab service, GoaMiles, be scrapped.

He further said that the chief minister had assured the association that GoaMiles taxis would not pick up passengers from hotels having taxi stands.

Sawant, however, told TOI that he had not assured the taximen that GoaMiles cabs would not pick up customers from hotels. He merely said that GoaMiles taxis would not be stationed outside hotels.
