Northeast monsoon preparedness: Monitoring officers appointed in all districts in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday announced appointment of senior bureaucrats as monitoring officers in each district to assess the northeast monsoon preparedness.

In a statement, the chief minister said the state disaster management authority meeting under his chairmanship was held in September and took stock of the preparatory work for the monsoon.



“As northeast monsoon began today, I ordered the monitoring officers to go to respective districts and discuss with the collectors and review the precautionary, safety and relief measures,” he said.

The chief minister expressed condolences to the families of six people who died in rain and lightning in Pudukkottai, Perambalur and Kancheepuram districts on Tuesday. He announced a financial aid of Rs 4 lakh from the state disaster relief fund to the families of each of the deceased.
