Visakhapatnam: The India meteorological department (IMD) has predicted the onset of northeast monsoon over south India around October 17 .

According to an IMD official the existing southwest monsoon is yet to withdraw from the entire country and also from some parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The southwest monsoon has not fully withdrawn from parts of the central, east and western regions of the country so far, added the India meteorological department official.

“The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from most of Telangana while the northeast monsoon will make an onset in next few days,” said the IMD officer.

With the onset of the northeast monsoon, there will be a good rainfall over Rayalaseema and south coastal districts such as Nellore in the winter season, predicted the officer.

The northeast monsoon is likely to hit parts of southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and south Andhra Pradesh.
