Over 700 kg of ganja seized, two arrested
Visakhapatnam: Officials of prohibition and excise department on Tuesday seized over 725 kgs of dry ganja worth Rs 70 lakh and nabbed two inter-state smugglers near Degree College Road at Narsipatnam. They were smuggling the contraband product in a goods’ carrier and had hidden the ganja with hands of banana.
The arrested have been identified as Vikram and Aslam, both are from Uttar Pradesh and the vehicle, too, is registered in UP.
Based on reliable information, the officials carried out surprise vehicular check-ups near the Government Degree College and intercepted the goods carrier. They found large quantity of ganja, packed into packets at the bottom of the luggage cabin of the vehicle and it was concealed with the hands of banana.
“Our investigation has revealed that Aslam and Vikram procured the marijuana from parts of Chintapalle and were smuggling it to Uttar Pradesh, where the price of a kg of ganja is around Rs 25,000, an excise official said.

A case has been registered under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
