Pandian 'tourist' jibe at oppn politicians visiting the state for canvassing

Berhampur: In an attack on BJP and Congress politicians from outside visiting the state for electioneering, BJD leader V K Pandian on Sunday dubbed them as tourists.

“Like tourists, they visit the state during election. They will make big assurances and once the election is over, they will forget all their promises,” said Pandian, who addressed election rallies in Boudh and Birmaharajpur assembly constituencies under Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat.

“On the other hand, chief minister Naveen Patnaik is with you every time, be it during flood or drought, happiness or sorrow. Don’t believe their (opposition leaders) big assurances, as they visit the state only during the time of elections to seek votes but not to serve the people,” he added.

“Where is the fulfilment of their promises of providing employment to 2 crore people every year and to double the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy?” he asked.

Pandian’s comments came just ahead of the visit of top BJP brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will address election rallies at Berhampur and Nabarangpur on Monday.

He said the chief minister provided detailed accounts of every project. “He served the people sincerely and worked hard for their welfare. He speaks less but works more. In case of the opposition, they speak more and work less,” said Pandian. He said Odisha was the only state where 95% students are getting scholarships — Rs 10,000 and Rs 9,000 per annum to girls and boys, respectively.
