Patiala civic body names dairies-shifting project after Guru Nanak

PATIALA: To mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the Patiala municipal corporation decided to name its dairies-shifting project after him. The civic body had given a nod to the project of shifting the dairies from the city to Ablowal village, which is situated on the outskirts.

The demand was raised by senior deputy mayor and some councillors after which the project came to be known as Shri Guru Nanak Dairy complex.

Under the project, the city dairies will be shifted to Ablowal village where the civic body had planned to allot the plots to all dairy owners in over 22 acre of land. With the shifting of dairies, the city would get relief from over 21 tonnes of sewerage that flows into the sewerage pipes and leads to blockade before it could flow into the drains.

MC adopts model bylaws

The MC is all set to provide compensation to families who lost their kin due to stray cattle attacks. The civic body had drafted by-laws on the registration and control of stray animals besides giving compensation to families of victims.

In case of death, the compensation to family or legal heir would be Rs 1 lakh. In case of any injury, the compensation to be awarded will be proportionate to the degree of the injury caused as certified by civil surgeon.

Besides the adoption of model by-laws for solid waste management, cleanliness and sanitation, the civic body passed resolutions on policies for shifting of dairies, imposed a complete ban on single-use plastic and plastic carry bags in Patiala.

“We have given a nod to tendering of a project of Rs 10 crore for laying sewerage and water pipelines. The other big clearance has been given to the carcass project and a consultant has been hired for the same. The bio-mining project of Rs 20 crore has also been given a nod. The Khaddar Bhandar building has been declared unsafe and we have decided to establish the parking here. Besides this the district Library here would be ameliorated,” said city mayor Sanjeev Sharma.

Takes back project from company

The Municipal Corporation today took back the project from the Noida-based company, Hari Bhari Recyclable Waste Management Private Limited, which was given the tender for door-to-door garbage collection project, but failed to even start with it. “Now, the corporation will outsource employees to run the door-to-door garbage collection project,” said deputy mayor Y S Yogi.
