People venturing out without wearing masks will be fined and arrested, Salem collector warns

SALEM: Salem district collector S A Raman has issued a strict warning to people about wearing masks. He said, “Violators will be fined and arrested.”

The collector said, “If a person is found once without a mask, he or she will be slapped with a fine of Rs 100. If the person is found without a mask for the second time, the fine will be Rs 500.

If the person is caught for the third time, he or she will be booked under Section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act 189 and arrested.”

According to the collector, many failed to wear masks while coming out of their homes. Citing the Tamil Nadu government’s order, Raman urged people to wear masks and not violate government orders.

The collector also appealed to public to cooperate with the district administration officials to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the district. He directed the frontline workers, including doctors, nurses, police officials, sanitary workers and media persons to wear masks while stepping out of their homes.
