PIL alleges illegal construction of temple on park land, Karnataka HC orders notice to BBMP

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has ordered notice to the state government and the BBMP in response to a PIL seeking prevention of construction of an unauthorized temple in a park area at Housing board 5th phase, Yelahanka in northern Bengaluru .

A division bench headed by chief justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka has directed the BBMP to depute an official to ascertain the position and for taking suitable action thereafter.

In his PIL, city advocate AV Amarnathan has claimed that the construction of the temple by an organisation called as Shivamandira trust violates Supreme court guidelines. He added that authorities have failed to act under Karnataka Parks, Playfields and Open Spaces (Preservation and Regulation) Act, 1985 so as to prevent this illegal construction.
