Plea in HC seeks CBI probe in UNA fund fraud case

KOCHI: A CBI probe has been sought before the high court into the alleged misappropriation of Rs 3.4 crore from the funds of United Nurses Association (UNA) by its national president Jasminsha M and others.

The petition seeking CBI probe was filed by Noby Joseph and another member of UNA through advocate N N Girija.

Stating that the UNA, which has head office at Thrissur, has branches all over India and abroad and receives funds from abroad, the petitioners have contended that a CBI probe is required.

“Since the association is having its offices and members at various states in India and abroad, it is necessary to investigate about the misappropriation of funds by Central Bureau of Investigation,” the petition stated.

On Monday, state government informed the high court that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case. The court had ordered last week that a meticulous investigation supervised by ADGP (crimes) is required in the case.

At the hearing, government produced a copy of the order issued by ADGP (Crime Branch) instituting a nine-member SIT headed by superintendent Abdul Rasheed for effective and sustainable investigation in the case. The order was issued on Monday.
