PM Modi arrives in Assam, holds roadshow in city

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a 4-km roadshow through the historic Guwahati-Shillong road (GS road) on Tuesday. He landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, on the outskirts of the city, at 7 pm.

The PM received a warm welcome fron chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the airport and from thousands of people who had gathered along the road to catch a glimpse of him.

Various cultural programmes were also organised to welcome Modi.

The roadshow started from the ABC point, where the Congress’s state headquarters is located, and culminated in Dispur. People lined up the streets waving at the Prime Minister as he travelled through the city. Supporters showered flower petals as a mark of appreciation.

Movement in the stretch between between Guwahati Club and Khanapara in the city was restricted about one hour before the PM’s roadshow began. Big LED screens were installed along the roads for the rally.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to spend the night night at the Koinadhora guest house and will visit lower Assam’s Nalbari district on Monday, where he will hold a massive election rally. It will be his first election rally in the state.
