Pune: Ghats along Pavana & Indrayani get ready to host Chhath Puja devotees

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Families from north India, particularly Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, will celebrate Chhath Puja on Saturday and Sunday at a dozen places in various parts of Pimpri Chinchwad, Talegaon, Dehu and Alandi.

Various social organizations would organize the festival at the Chinchwadgoan immersion ghat, Kejubai temple ghat at Thergaon, Ganesh lake at Nigdi, Zhulelal ghat at Pimpri, Bhosari lake, Kalewadi immersion ghat, Jadhav ghat at Ravet, Indrayani ghat at Alandi, Sant Tukaram Maharaj temple ghat at Dehu and the two lakes in Talegaon.



Vishva Shri Ramsena Samajik Sanghatan chairman Lalbabu Gupta said, "Around 2-3 lakh people from UP, Bihar and Jharkhand live in Pimpri Chinchwad. Many of them will go back to those states to celebrate the festival. We expect around 60,000-70,000 people to take part in the festival at over a dozen places in the city and its nearby areas."

He said the festival would be celebrated along the banks of the Pavana and Indrayani on November 2 and 3. The main celebration will be at the Indrayani river ghat in Moshi and around 15,000-20,000 are expected to be there.

The main attraction of the celebration at Moshi will be the Kashi Ganga Mahaarti at 4.30pm on Saturday and at 5am on Sunday. "People from as far as Chakan, Wagholi, Bhosari, Khed and other areas are expected to attend," Gupta said.
