Pune: Man flashes woman outside Amanora Mall; arrested

A woman who works as a Yoga instructor was allegedly sexually harassed at Amanora Township in Pune early on Saturday when a man allegedly flashed at her.

The Hadapsar police said the incident happened when the girl was out with her dog for a walk.

The Hadapsar police identified the accused as Gaurishankar Amulyakumar Pattanaik (35) who works with Vodafone Group.

He is a resident of Malwadi in Hadapsar who had come to the township at the time of the incident.

The police said the incident took place at around 7 am. The accused arrived on a two wheeler and suddenly stopped near her. He allegedly took off his pant and flashed at the girl.

According to police, he suddenly parked his two wheeler on the other side of the road. He walked a few meters close to her from the opposite side and suddenly flashed at the girl. The girl raised an alarm however he fled from the spot.

However, the act was caught in cameras at the township. When the girl lodged a complaint with the police the police scanned around 45 CCTV cameras of the township.

Hadapsar Inspector Sunil Tambe said, “The number of his vehicle was found in the clipping and based on the same we identified him through his registration with the RTO. He was arrested within few hours and upon his questioning confessed to his crime. He will be in our custody for two days for further questioning”.

The police who reached the spot when the incident happened stated that the accused is not known to the girl. He stopped by only to commit the act and harass the girl. Before the girl could grab him when she screamed back at him, he fled with his vehicle.

The police added that the accused confessed to committing the act however did not open up why he flashed at the girl. In his primary questioning he claimed that he committed the act without any motives. However, the police are questioning him further.

The police have booked the accused under Section 354 for sexual harassment under the Indian Penal Code.
