Punjab: 13 cattle dead in Ludhiana floods


LUDHIANA: The recent floods in district Ludhiana have led to the deaths of 13 animals so far, while close to 50 have been subjected to various diseases and are being given required treatment by animal husbandry department . As a precautionary measure the department has also vaccinated 2,000 animals in various villages who were exposed to floods.



This was disclosed on Sunday by deputy director of animal husbandry department Dr Ashok Kumar . He said, "Thirteen animals have died in Ludhiana district due to the flood situation, post-mortem of dead animals has been done. Eleven of these animals were killed due to rising water flow in Kum Kalan drain, while two animals were killed due to roof collapse after heavy rains in village Gill. During this time, 50 animals were subjected to various diseases, many of them have been saved with timely treatment. Though the situation in the district Ludhiana due to floods is completely under control but efforts to protect affected people and livestock from potential ailments are still underway. Animals are being vaccinated in flood-affected villages and till date, more than 2000 livestock have been vaccinated in these villages”.

Deputy director also added, "Department had already vaccinated 5.80 lakh livestock of Ludhiana district before the monsoon but now after the flood, more than 2000 livestock have been given booster dose. In the villages where there was a lot of water, a survey is being carried out. Animal testing camps are working in the affected villages so that no disease spreads among the livestock”
