Punjabi language conference on April 27, 28

Ludhiana: Punjabi Sahit Akademi is organising a two-day comprehensive Punjabi language conference on ‘Changing scenario in contemporary times’ at Punjabi Bhawan on April 27 and 28.

The inaugural session will begin at 9:30am on April 27 and will be chaired by agri economist S S Johal. Writer and poet Surjit Patar will be the chief guest on the occasion.

The second session will commence at 11.45 am and will be chaired by language critic Swarajbir. In this session, Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, secretary of All India Progressive Writers’ Association, will speak on the ‘Status of Indian Languages in Contemporary Times'. A research paper on ‘Consumerism, culture and Punjabi Language’ will also be read during the session.

The third session will begin at 2.30pm and be chaired Arvind, vice-chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala. In this session, ‘Intellect and Punjabi Language’; ‘Opportunities for Punjabi Language in the global world’ and ‘Technology and Punjabi Language' will be discussed.

During the fourth session, which will start at 5.30 pm, the film 'Aatu Khozhi’ written by Gurmit Kariyalawi will be deliberated upon.

On April 28, the fifth session will be held at 9.30 in the morning. It will be chaired by language critic Manmohan Navjit Johal. He will speak on 'Print media and Punjabi language'. ‘ Role and relevance of Punjabi language in changing scenarios’ will also be discussed. A research paper on ‘Constructiveness of Punjabi language in changing times’ will also be presented.

The sixth session, scheduled to commence at 11.45am, will be chaired by language critic Surjit Singh Bhatti. In this session, ‘Education and mother tongue’ will be discussed and a research paper on 'Multicultural society and linguistic needs' will be presented. The seventh and the concluding session of the second day will start at 2:30pm.

It will be jointly presided over by story writer Joginder Singh Nirala, scholar Anup Singh and writer Prem Sahil. In this session, teachers and students will present their research papers.
