1. Girl Wanted to Marry Dalit, Set Ablaze by Mom

A woman burnt her 17-year-old daughter alive to stop her from marrying her Dalit boyfriend in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam on Tuesday. The mother, who also set herself on fire, was admitted to hospital. The girl and her boyfriend had planned to marry next Monday when she would have turned 18.

On Monday night, the mother asked the daughter to snap her ties and a scuffle began. Around 4.30am on Tuesday, she poured kerosene on her daughter and set her ablaze before setting herself on fire.

2. AIIMS Ex-Doc Found Dead; Husband, in-Laws Booked

A 29-year-old former AIIMS doctor, living alone in her flat in Sector 43, has been found dead due to an overdose of anaesthetic. Her husband, who is a resident doctor at AIIMS, and in-laws have been booked for abetment to suicide after her father filed a complaint against them. No arrests have been made so far.

The deceased has been identified as Shonam Motis. Police said it appeared to be a case of suicide. “Several tablets and injection phials were scattered near the body. It seems she took multiple doses of anaesthetic. We have sent samples to a forensic lab to ascertain the exact cause of death,” said Dr Pawan Chaudhary, who conducted the post-mortem.

3. Two Gunrunners Use Food Stall to Supply Arms, Held

A gunrunner supplying arms to criminals in Najafgarh and Dwarka under the garb of running a popular food stall has been arrested along with his partner. Police said they procured weapons from Meerut in UP and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.

“The guns would be stored in the utensils inside the kitchen. Anyone requiring arms would come with a reference and ask for a pre-decided food item. He was charged Rs 8,000-10,000 per plate. The weapon was sometimes given as a takeaway,” an official said.

4. Five Home Guard Officers Held in Salary Scam

Five Home Guards personnel — a divisional commandant, an assistant district commandant and three platoon commanders — were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly fraudulently withdrawing salaries of their colleagues in Gautam Budh Nagar.

On 13 November, the police had registered an FIR, and on 18 November, the case was transferred to the crime branch. The salary registers were burnt within hours of the case being transferred to the crime branch.

5. 2 Nabbed for Stabbing 32-Yr-Old in Seelampur

A 19-year-old man was arrested, while his juvenile friend has been apprehended for allegedly stabbing and injuring a 32-year-old man during a road rage incident in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur on 16 November.

Police said the alleged fight between the two parties started when their vehicles nearly collided in a narrow lane, that led to a ruckus. During the ruckus, the minor boy allegedly stabbed Jain two times in his chest, before the trio fled the crime scene.

The occupant of one of the cars, 32-year-old man Amit Jain was alone, while the other car had three persons, including the juvenile.

6. Rape and Suicide of Minors: Kerala Govt Moves Court for Re-Investigation

The CPI(M)-led Kerala government on Wednesday filed an appeal in the high court, seeking re-investigation and re-trial into the rape and suicide of two minor girls in Palakkad two years ago.

The state saw heavy protest when a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court in Palakkad set free the four people accused in the death of minor siblings aged between 8 and 11, within a span of two months.

The issue also figured prominently in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and speaker Om Biral said it was a serious matter, and expressed hope that concerned agencies will deal with the case seriously. Congress MPs from the state had sought the Centre’s intervention, saying the state government was shielding the accused. The state government had sacked the special public prosecutor in the case two days ago, citing lapses on her part.

7. Apart from VIP Treatment on Flights, Man Who Posed as Pilot Wanted to Impress Women: Police

A crisp pilot uniform got 48-year-old Rajan Mahbubani upgraded seats on flights, while aviation jargon and anecdotes got him entry into cockpits. On 18 November, dressed as a pilot, he was about to board his 16th flight as a passenger from IGI airport, when Mahbubani was arrested for allegedly impersonating a pilot.

“He shuttled between Delhi and Kolkata and got the pilot’s uniform stitched from Kolkata over a year ago. He also got an Armyman’s uniform stitched and claimed to be a colonel. Both claims are false,” said DCP (Airport) Sanjay Bhatia.

8. Five Men Attack Courier Delivery Man on Train, Loot Valuables Worth Rs 50 Lakh

Five unidentified men attacked a delivery staffer of a courier firm in a moving Kutch Express train between Valsad and Dungri railway stations on Tuesday night and made away with his bag containing cash and gold worth around Rs 50 lakh, police said.

According to police, Praveen Rajput, a resident of Gayetri building on M G Road in Vaslad who works as a delivery man with Amrut Kantilal, a local courier company, was on way to the head office in Surat by train. The train reached Valsad railway station around 8.30 pm and slowed down near the Kakri railway crossing after around eight minutes, when five youths entered the general coach and tried to snatch Praveen’s bag. Other passengers did not interfere seeing the country-made pistol with the robbers.

9. Home Guard Scam: Top Official Among 5 Held

Five Home Guard officials have been arrested by Gautam Buddh Nagar Police in connection with the attendance scam. Three accused officials — Montu Kumar (32), Shailendra Kumar (30) and Satyaveer Yadav (38) — are non-salaried Platoon Commandants, while Satish Chandra (35) is Assistant District Commandant and Ram Narayan Chaurasia (40) is Divisional Commandant, Aligarh. Chaurasia is the mastermind of the alleged scam that he initiated since his appointment as District Home Guard Commandant in Gautam Buddh Nagar in 2017 till he got promoted and transferred in 2019, police said.

The arrests were made a day after two to three-year-old muster rolls (attendance logs) were found burnt — in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence — inside the Gautam Buddh Nagar district Home Guard commandant’s office in Greater Noida. The police suspect that the arrested officials were behind the arson.
