QHyderabad: HC Rap Over Numaish Mishap; Drones Find Hidden Timber

1. French Aerospace Major to Set up Plant in City

French aerospace major Safran on Tuesday said it will set up a plant in Hyderabad to make parts for CFM International’s LEAP turbofan engine with an investment of €36 million.

Construction on the facility will begin in June. The target is to produce the first batch of parts by early 2020.

By end of this year, operations at the plant will be launched with about 50 employees while over time, the headcount will be 300.

2. Telangana High Court Rap Over Numaish Mishap at Exhibition Grounds A major fire had broken out at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds in Hyderabad late on Wednesday 30 January.

Expressing anguish over the functioning of the various departments in providing safety measures for the Numaish at Exhibition Grounds, the Telangana High Court directed the director general of the State Disaster Response and Fire Services to file an affidavit by February 25 as to what infrastructure was in place for the All India Industrial Exhibition and the steps planned to move people to safer places in case of any disaster.

A division bench comprising Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice T. Amarnath Goud, while hearing a PIL questioning the lack of fire safety measures, directed the Director General of Police to ensure that a sufficient number of police personnel is deputed at the Numaish to evacuate visitors if any untoward incident occurs.

3. Tiger Skinning: Whistleblower NGO Named as Main Accused

Ramagundam police arrested 16 accused, including forest department animal trackers and Chandrapur based NGO ‘Tiger Hunting End’ representatives and brokers for allegedly killing and skinning a tiger. Forest and police officials seized a tiger skin from a house in Mandamarri on 24 January.

Giving details to mediapersons about the tiger skin case, while producing the 16 accused in Mancherial on Wednesday, Ramagundam police commissioner V. Satyanarayana, additional DCP N Ashok Kumar and Mancherial DCP M Venugopal Rao said that the police successfully investigated the case and brought all the accused, who were directly or indirectly involved in the case, to book.

4. Supreme Court Firm on Transfer of Telangana HC Chief Justice The SC collegium has reiterated its proposal to transfer Telangana High Court Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan to the Calcutta High Court.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has reiterated its proposal to the Union government to transfer Telangana High Court Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan to the Calcutta High Court.

The CJI along with collegium members Justice A.K. Sikri, Justice S.A. Bobde, Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Arun Mishra on Tuesday confirmed that there was nothing to reconsider its earlier decision on the transfer of Justice Radhakrishnan.

5. Peddapalli: Cops Find Hidden Timber Using Geo-Tagged Drones

Ramagundam police used a Geo-tagged drone camera for the first time to locate timber hidden in the sand, along the river Godavari. The unearthed teak logs were shifted  to the forest depot.

Ramagundam police unearthed the teak logs hidden in the sands of the Godavari shore with the help of a drone camera near Arenda and Vilochavaram villages in Manthani mandal.
