Railways provides employment under MGNREGA in coordination with Uttar Pradesh government

LUCKNOW: North Eastern Railway (NER) is providing employment to labourers under MGNREGA in coordination with the state government. The labourers are finding employment close to their homes.


On an average, Lucknow division of NER is generating 12,000 mandays of work under MGNREGA in districts like Siddharthnagar , Balrampur , Maharajganj , Basti, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Sitapur and others under its jurisdiction.

As per the official release, railways is reaching out to district administrations concerned with the proposal.

The district administration with the help of gram pradhans and local officers is getting labourers living in the nearby villages of the railway site, where work is proposed, involved in the work like levelling of mud, maintenance of approach road to level crossings, trimming and clearing of shrubs at the site and plantation besides others.

Out of 25 proposals, eight, worth Rs 31.1 lakh, have been sanctioned. All works will be completed under MGNREGA.
