Rajkot man who brutalized 12-year-old boy arrested

RAJKOT: The man who had brutalized a 12-year-old boy and dumped him in a seriously injured condition in the bushes behind Bucharvada port in Diu on Thursday was arrested on Friday.


Police said the accused, Rizwan Iqbal (20), had inflicted injuries on the face, head and private parts of Vikas Vanraj (12) with a stone.

Vikas had gone missing since Wednesday evening and he was found by labourers on Thursday morning.

Police rounded up 22 labourers working at Bucharvada port and interrogated them. During the interrogation, Iqbal broke down and confessed to the crime.

“Iqbal said that he had wanted to sodomize Vikas, and as Vikas had resisted his attempt, he had attacked him with a brick with the intention of killing him, fearing police action. Thinking that Vikas was dead, he had dumped his body in the bushes and fled,” said Liladhar Makwana, sub-inspector with Diu police station.
