Rape survivor accuses police of not arresting 'hiding' accused, protests outside top cop's office

Ludhiana: A rape survivor from Ludhiana staged a protest outside the office of Ludhiana police commissioner Rakesh Agarwal on Saturday. The girl claimed that the police were not arresting the accused even as he had been hiding at his own residence.

The girl claimed that the police had even been pressuring her to take back her complaint.

As per the survivor, the accused was hiding at his Bilaspur residence.

The accused was the woman's colleague and had allegedly established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. The accused, however, refused to marry the girl later.

The girl then approached the Punjab and Haryana high court and narrater her ordeal. The panchayat members of the accused's village intervened in the matter and stated that the survivor and accused would get married before March 2020.

Accused entered survivor's home and raped her

In December 2019, the accused allegedly barged into the survivor's home and raped her again. The girl then lodged a complaint with the police. Even as 8 months passed, no action was taken by the police, Hindustan Times reported.

The woman also stated that the accused man's father had lodged a missing complaint at the Jamalpur police station as he wanted to shield him. The woman claimed that she would continue to stage a protest until the accused is arrested.

Mohammad Jamil, Focal Point station house officer (SHO) said that they conducted several raids at the accused's residence in Himachal Pradesh but were unable to locate him. Jamil also alleged that the survivor had not been pressured to withdraw her complaint.
