Register migrant workers for jobs under MGNREGS: MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday asked officials to register all migrant workers for job cards so that they can be given work under MGNREGS. It should be clearly mentioned in the registration that the worker is skilled, unskilled, or semiskilled. Based on their skills, they will be given work in various industries, he said.




Chouhan was reviewing the Coronavirus situation and arrangements made in the wake of the pandemic in the state through video conferencing. During the review of Khargone district, it was told that earlier Khargone district was in the red zone, but now it has come into the green zone. There were 114 Coronavirus patients in the district, of whom 87 have been discharged and they have returned home. Chouhan directed that care should continue to be taken, so that infection does not spread.

Additional chief secretary, health, Mohammad Suleman told the meeting that the number of Coronavirus -infected areas has come down in the state. Now these areas have become 701. Total 10 districts of the state are infection- free. In three districts, no cases of Coronavirus have been reported. They are Katni, Narsinghpur and Balaghat. In the remaining seven districts including Agar-Malwa, Alirajpur, Anuppur, Chhindwara, Harda, Shahdol and Shajapur there were Corona cases earlier, but now they have become infection- free.

During the review of wheat procurement, Chouhan directed that it should be ensured that in every district that no eligible farmer is deprived of selling his wheat on support price. Principal secretary, Sheo Shekhar Shukla informed that so far 98.14 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured from 13.60 lakh farmers in the state. Out of the wheat procured, around 85% percent, that is 83.32 lakh metric tonnes have been transported and stored. Besides, Rs 11,500 crore have also been paid to 10.08 lakh farmers.

On the return of migrant workers to the state, additional chief secretary, ICP Keshari said that so far a total of 4.63 lakh workers have returned to Madhya Pradesh by trains and buses. Return of about 50,000 more workers is likely. Out of these, 1.35 lakh workers have come by trains and 3.28 lakh labourers have come in buses.
