Robbers loot ₹71 lakh from Sikar BDO in city after failed land deal

Jaipur: At least five armed robbers intercepted a white SUV near Sumer Nagar extension under Muhana police station area and robbed Rs 71 lakh from a family of Sikar on Tuesday evening.

Police initiated barricading till late in the evening and have claimed a breakthrough. The victim, a block development officer (BDO) had come to Jaipur with his brother and friend to crack a land deal of 23 bighas situated in Sikar.

According to police, the incident took place at 6pm when the victims were returning after having a cup of tea from their relative's house at Arihant Residency under Muhana police station area. “Their vehicle was intercepted by a black SUV.

At least five assailants attacked the trio with baseball bats and sticks. They first vandalised their vehicle, later snatched and decamped with two bags containing a total cash of Rs 71 lakh,” said Digant Anand, deputy commissioner of police (south) while talking to TOI.

The victims informed the police control room after the attack and said that robbers took not more than 2 minutes to attack and flee with the cash. Soon after the incident, a large number of police officers rushed to the spot. “In the primary investigation we are probing if the persons who were interested in selling their 23 bighas of land could be behind the attack and loot. They are also being interrogated,” said a senior police officer.

The victim, identified as Devendra Jangid, had come to Jaipur on Tuesday afternoon with his brother Rajesh Jangid and their friend Manish Jangid. “They left from Sikar at 2pm and reached Jaipur at 5pm. They met five people including one identified as Shrimali to crack the land deal. Since the deal was not finalised they decided to leave,” the officer added.
