Rohtak registers 64.73% poll percentage

ROHTAK: Voting was conducted peacefully in Rohtak city barring one incident in which police arrested a history sheeter and two of his aides for trying to disturb voting process. A voter turnout of 64.73% was registered till 7 pm, slightly lower than 66.62% reported in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Despite being a holiday, voters started assembling at around 6.30am to cast their vote.

At Sector-3, booth number 103-04, EVM machine suffered technical glitch and voters had to wait for about an hour.

Nitin Dahiya, a resident of Sector-3, said officials present at the polling booth could not not give any satisfactory answer after the EVM stopped working. People began to disperse after waiting for about an hour, he complained.

Men and women in both rural and urban areas came out to vote and the polling percentage remained impressive in the morning. However, the voter turnout saw a slump during the middle of the day due to excessive heat conditions. The evening session again saw scores of people queuing up to exercise their right.

Meham segment topped the poll percentage at 70.20%, matching the figures with Garhi-Sampla-Kiloi. Kosli registered 69% voting, followed by Beri 62%, Jhajjar 63%, Bahadurgarh 61%, Rohtak City 60% and Kalanaur 66%.

Local election officer here told the media that a total of 16 complaints related to violation of model code of conduct were registered by the office and action would be taken after verifying the complaints.
