Rs 1.63 crore cash van theft: Nine from Tamil Nadu-based gang held

Allahabad: More than a month after the accused decamped after stealing Rs 1.63 crore from a cash van , nine persons — including a woman — were arrested from different parts of the city on Sunday. Police also seized Rs 10 lakh cash from their possession.

The accused were identified as Mukesh Kumar, Prem Koiri, Aditya Koiri, Jack Mudliyar, Gokul, Kumran B, Sahul Hammed , Subramandiyam and Meena Selvi.

Save Salvi who is from West Bengal, all other accused are residents of Tiruchirappalli.

SSP (Allahabad) Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said the gang was based in Tamil Naidu. “We are looking for other members of the gang, which operates in an organised manner across the country,” he added.

The SSP also said the police seized a number of forged documents and ID cards from their possession.

On October 3 evening, a group of unidentified persons made off with Rs 1.63 crore from an ATM cash van parked outside a railway station, under Civil Lines police station. A case under section 395, 412, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code was lodged with Civil Lines police station.
