Severe lack of parking space in key areas plagues Hubballi

Hubballi: The city is facing a severe parking crunch, further exacerbating the woes of commuters. Inadequate parking facilities along main roads and commercial areas have led to constant battles for parking spots in the city.

Market areas such as Janatha Bazar, Sangolli Rayanna Road, Dajiban Peth Road, Vidyanagar, Gavali Galli, Moorusavira Mutt, Railway Station Road, CBT, Shah Bazar, Durgad Bail, Ghantikeri, Sarafagatti, Maratha Galli, JC Nagar, Madar Oni, Tuljabhavani Circle, Ganesh Peth, Bommapur Oni, Butter Market, Deshpande Nagar Main Road, old bus stand, Tender Sure Road, Shirur Park Road witness vehicles encroaching upon footpaths due to scarcity of parking spaces.

The corporation has already implemented a paid parking system at many places like Koppikar Road and Durga Bail, which see heavy traffic flow.

In some other areas, parking is allowed on the left side of the road on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and on the right side on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. However, people continue to parking on no-parking spaces.Though traffic police have fined many vehicles, there is no awareness among the people.

Basavaraj J, a motorist, said space for parking is not provided in front of many commercial buildings in the city. “Many buildings have violated norms and have left no space for parking, even for the vehicles of staff working there. Any building complex should be constructed after identifying adequate space for parking. Only then the HDMC allow the construction of the building. However, this rule is completely violated in the city,” he observed.

Rajesh Hadagalli, another motorist, said multi-storeyed buildings have been constructed on narrow roads without parking space.“Because of this, the public and staff are experiencing severe problems. HDMC should provide space for vehicle parking,” he urged.

Roopak Chand Jain, a shop owner, said, “A board has been put up by the corporation that parking is allowed in front of our shop only on three days a week. However, people are still parking on other days as well,” he added.

HDMC commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi told TOI that it is true that many places in Hubballi are facing parking issues.“To solve this problem, a space has been identified for paid parking. A tender will be called for after the Lok Sabha elections,” he added.
