Shami's wife arrested for ruckus at his Amroha house

BIJNOR/KOLKATA: Hasin Jahan , the wife of Indian cricket team's paceman Mohammed Shami , was arrested late on Sunday night at his native village in Amroha for allegedly barging into his house and getting involved in an argument with his mother and other family members. She was released on a personal bond of Rs 3 lakh on Monday morning.

Shami's mother filed a police complaint that Jahan, who is in the middle of a bitter marital discord with Shami, forcibly entered the house in Sahaspur Ali Nagar village and started fighting with his family members. Police arrested her for breach of peace. According to police, based on a complaint lodged by Shami's mother, officers of Didauli police station arrested her around 12.15am on Monday. She was kept at a hospital through the night and only received bail on Monday morning.

Talking to TOI, Jahan said: "I was sleeping in my room at my in-law's place when cops forcibly entered my room and dragged me out. They also pulled my infant daughter from the bed and took her along. We were first taken to the police station and then sent to a hospital under police custody. I was not allowed to speak to my lawyer or relatives for a long time. We were not offered any food or water and I was granted bail by the SDM court 10 hours later."

Jahan accused Shami of domestic abuse and infidelity last year, ahead of the IPL. Incidentally, Kolkata Police filed a chargesheet against Shami last month, charging him under Section 498A (domestic abuse) of the IPC, but relieved him of other stringent charges, including attempt to murder.

A resident of Jadavpur in Kolkata, Jahan said she reached her in-law's place around 7pm on Sunday to claim some of her jewellery, clothes and furniture that she and Shami had bought together. "I had the keys and entered my room. My in-laws started shouting at me and even called the cops. I told them that this section of the house was built by Shami and as his legally wed wife I had the right to stay there. Then a little after midnight, cops banged at the door and entered my room and forcibly took me with them. I was in my night gown and requested them to let me change. When I tried to contact my lawyer, they snatched my phone," said Jahan.

"After being granted bail around 11.30am, I requested the police to let me go back to my in-law's place. But they threatened me not to go there and I was forced to take shelter at a relative's place," said Jahan. At present, Shami is playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has also been included in the 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup cricket tournament beginning May next year.

Amroha SDM Indra Nandan Singh said: "There was family dispute between Shami's wife Hasin Jahan and her in-laws over her entry into the house. Shami's family members had informed the cops that Hasina was creating ruckus in the house. Police reached and detained Hasin and Pawan Singh .

"They were booked under section 151 based on the report by police. They were produced before my court on Monday morning. She was released after furnishing a personal bond of Rs 3 lakh while Pawan Singh was released on bail."
