Shillong Chamber Choir to honour Chandrayaan 2's moon landing by singing Vande Mataram

As the nation is waiting with bated breath for the soft landing of Chandrayan 2 on the surface of the moon, the Shillong Chamber Choir is all set to sing Vande Mataram. The spacecraft will land anytime between 1:30 am and 2:30 am on September 7, as per reports. Sharing a post of this historic event, the famous Shillong Chamber Choir uploaded a picture on Instagram where the musical group will sing the national song during the satellite landing. 

Their official post reads, "With much joy :-), we are honoured to announce that our song 'Vande Mataram', written and composed by Neil Nongkynrih is going to be part of the historical lunar mission of 'Chandrayaan-2' as the song plays during the world's first ever soft landing on the Moon's South Polar Region, and India being only the fourth country after US, Russia, and China to soft-land on the lunar surface. Watch it LIVE tomorrow, Friday the 6th of September on NatGeo, Hotstar & Star Plus from 11:30pm onwards. Here's wishing the mission of 'Chandrayaan-2' a successful landing :-)"

“With great pride and patriotic fervor, the Shillong Chamber Choir is delighted to share the news that the Chandrayaan Mission – 2 will be beamed to billions around the world, and its moon landing will be accompanied by Neil Nongkynrih’s very own Vande Mataram which is sung by the Shillong Chamber Choir,” a statement issued by Shillong Chamber Choir member Damon Lyndem. 

The Shillong Chamber Choir had first received fame when they won the reality show India's Got Talent season 2

. Based in Shillong, Meghalaya, the choir consists of 25 singers and musicians, is famous for revamping several classic tunes in Hindi cinema.

In the meantime, we are inching towards India's second and also most ambitious lunar mission to date by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Chandrayaan 2 is expected to touchdown near the South Pole of the Moon in the early hours of Saturday morning. With this, India will be the first country to land close to the south region in its first attempt.
