SP, BJYM men booked for filming voting inside booth

Allahabad: A Samajwadi Party leader and an office bearer of to Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha ( BJYM ), the youth wing of BJP, were booked by police on Monday for posting their photos while casting vote for the Pratapgarh Sadar bypoll on social media.

Pratapgarh police lodged an FIR under Representative of People’s Act and appropriate sections of IPC against SP leader Raju Yadav and BJYM leader Ravi Gupta on charges of violating the secrecy of voting.

Bypolling for Pratapgarh Sadar assembly was held on Monday amid tight security arrangements.

Pratapgarh SP, Abhishek Singh, said, “Two FIRs have been lodged, one at Kotwali and the other at Kandhai police station against BJYM leader Ravi Gupta and SP leader Raju Yadav, respectively, on the charges of violating the secrecy of voting.”

“Yadav was booked under appropriate section of IPC and Representative of People’s Act after he filmed the voting process with his mobile and shared it on his social media account,” he added. The video, photos posted by the two went on viral on social media.
