Sports teacher accused of harassing girls absconding

Ahmedabad: The terminated sports teacher at St Xavier’s High School , Loyola Hall, accused of stalking and sexually harassing minor schoolgirls by sending them lewd messages, has gone absconding . Gujarat University police on Saturday filed a complaint against Ravirajsinh Chauhan , 39, stating he has been absconding from legal procedure as he has neither been appearing for court proceedings nor has the court summons been served on his address.

Sub-inspector J V Manat of Gujarat University police said in his FIR that Chauhan, 39, a resident of Kuleen Tenements Society in Vasna, has been declared absconder by a court as he has not appeared for the proceedings since Feb.

Chauhan was arrested on Oct 17, 2022, by Gujarat University police on an FIR registered following complaints made by four girls. The police filed a chargesheet invoking Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso), Sections 354A (sexual harassment of the nature of unwelcome physical contact and advances or a demand or request for sexual favours) and 354D (stalking) of IPC and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act against him for allegedly harassing minor girls.

A major controversy erupted on September 9, 2022, after four girls studying in the school’s higher secondary section complained to the principal about Chauhan sending them indecent messages on Instagram. Those girls had complained that the teacher sent them lewd messages telling them to send him ‘hot photographs’ and asking them to meet him outside the school alone.

Later, six more girls had complained in writing to the school management. The teacher was suspended by the school and an internal investigation committee was set up, which also gave its report holding him guilty of pervert behaviour with minor girls.
