Student's body found in Sirhind canal

Ludhiana: Nine days after a student went missing, his body was found in Sirhind canal near Tandey village of Machhiwara on Wednesday.

On March 13, Arshjyot Singh, 17, a resident of Urna village in Machhiwara, had gone to a Samrala school to write his examination, but never returned.

Arshjyot’s father Kuldeep Singh told the police, “That day, my son, who studied in Class XII, had gone to Senior Secondary School for Boys in Samrala to appear for a paper.

Arshjyot was upset because he was unprepared. When he didn’t return by evening, we started looking for him.”

His family had found his bicycle near Powat bridge on the canal and some people said he had jumped in.

Machhiwara SHO inspector Ramaninderjit Singh said family members and villagers had been searching for him and kept an eye on the bridges in the area. He said the police had provided them lights for the purpose and on Wednesday morning the body was recovered.

Police officials said the post-mortem was being conducted at civil hospital. They said Kuldeep has one more son and a daughter.
