Tamil Nadu: Class 10 student ends life after parents refuse to buy smartphone

Cuddalore: A Class 10 student from Cuddalore ended his life allegedly after his parents refused to buy him a smartphone. The deceased was identified as Vignesh. The Class 10 student allegedly wanted the phone to attend his online classes. 

Reportedly, Vignesh's parents told him that they would take his demand into consideration but he still ended his life. 

After the incident came to light, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police sources said that it was not a matter of affordability for the family. 

Class 10 student ends life after being unable to attend classes 

In June this year, another Class 10 student ended her life in Howrah, West Bengal as she did not have a computer or smartphone to attend online classes. The girl used to study at an English medium school in Bally. 

As per the deceased girl's parents, she used to share a smartphone with her siblings. The phone got damaged after it fell from the hands of the deceased's brother. The phone could not even be repaired as a shutdown was in place. 

The girl's father said that his daughter was scared of failing her examinations as she was unable to attend her classes. The girl's father said that she had been depressed over the same. She had even called her father and shared her concerns. On the day of the incident, the girl hanged herself to death when her brother left for cricket practice.
