The body was later recovered from the bag. According to a report, the hospital authorities say the body might have been dumped by an outsider.

The hospital's medical officer Ambiga Srinivasan said that all the babies born in the hospital in the last few days are alive.

She said the body has been sent for autopsy. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against unidentified persons.

The police are also scanning the CCTV footages of the hospital to identify the culprit.

Newborn rescued from public toilet in Thane

In a similar incident, a woman in Maharashtra's Thane district was booked for allegedly abandoning her newborn in a public toilet in the Mumbra area. The child was rescued by a local who went to the toilet in the early hours of August 9 and heard the cries of a newborn infant from inside the toilet.

Later in the day, the woman who found the baby managed to shift the child to the Kalwa Civic Hospital with the help of a social worker. She then approached local law enforcement officers and filed a complaint in this regard.

Later, the police booked the child's mother under Section 317 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which corresponds to the punishment for exposing or abandoning a child of under twelve years of age by a parent or person responsible for taking the child's care. An official with the Mumbra police station said that the woman who rescued the child made inquiries among locals and gathered enough information to help the police identify the mother.
