Teen survivor raped again in Durg, accused yet not held

RAIPUR: A 16-year-old mentally-challenged rape survivor was allegedly raped in Durg district.

According to the police, the survivor lives with her parents in a village under the limits of Pulgaon police station. On August 19, her parents had gone out into the fields leaving her at home. The 30-year-old accused, Devnarayan Sahu, barged into the girl's house around noon and allegedly raped her.

The matter came to light after the survivor's mother returned home and the girl somehow mustered the courage to narrate her ordeal. On Friday, her parents lodged a complaint. Police have registered an offence against Sahu under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for penetrative sexual assault. The accused was not arrested till this report was filed. In 2017, the survivor was raped by another man hailing from her village, too. The accused was even convicted and sentenced by a local court this year.

Even as the survivor was yet to recover from the trauma, her modesty was outraged again.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
