Telangana: Khammam collector Karnan's 'green challenge' to his three counterparts

HYDERABAD: Khammam collector R V Karnan has thrown a ‘green challenge’ to his counterparts in other three districts in Telangana .

On Wednesday, Karnan planted three seedlings on the collectorate premises. This is part of the ‘ Green India Challenge ’ that was started by MP J Santosh Kumar. While planting the seedlings, the Khammam collector requested Nalgonda collector Prashant Patil, Vikarabad collector Pausumi Basu and Mancherial collector Bharati Hollikeri to accept the challenge and plant saplings.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had launched the 6th phase of the Haritha Haram programme to plant saplings in Narsapur of Medak district in June this year.

Environment minister A Indrakaran Reddy, during a video conference meet with district collectors on August 6 had said during the Haritha Haram programme, 29.86 crore saplings are to be planted. He said out of this target, 19.58 crore have already been planted. This would mean that 65% of the target is achieved. He advised collectors to strive to complete the target by the end of August.

Officials have also been advised to ensure that every sapling that is planted is protected and taken care of.
