Temp to dip over next few days: IMD

BHUBANESWAR: It is time to bring out woollen clothes and leather jackets as weathermen predict a drop in temperature in several parts of the state in the next couple of days. On Monday, Bhubaneswar experienced an overcast sky and drop in temperature.

According to the met office , shallow to moderate fog will engulf several parts of south and north Odisha.

Light rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri , Gajapati, Rayagada and dry weather is likely to prevail over rest of the districts on Monday and Tuesday, Met sources said.

A trough line in the lower tropospheric levels lies over south-west Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu coasts. Due to dry westerly winds, the maximum and minimum temperature is likely to drop in the next few days, an officer at Bhubaneswar Met Office said.

The highest maximum temperature of 31.5°C was recorded at Balangir and the lowest minimum temperature of 11.5°C was recorded at Sundargarh on Sunday.

Phulbani recorded 12°C followed by 14°C at Daringbadi on Sunday. Twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded minimum temperature of 18.4°C and 16.5°C respectively.

"There will be no large change in minimum temperature during the next 48 hours and the night temperature will fall by 2°C to 3°C gradually thereafter over the districts of Odisha," the IMD bulletin said.

The weathermen said some parts of the state may experience foggy weather in the days to come. Shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha.

With the onset of foggy weather conditions, the visibility in coastal areas may reduce causing inconvenience to commuters in the morning hours, said officials in the IMD office here.

Overcast sky has set the mood for winter as people have started planning for winter vacations.

"Even in winter, the chill has not been felt in the city so far. We hope the mercury to fall a bit so that we can bring out woollen clothes and wear some winter fashion outfits," said Mugdha Panda, a college student.
