TN couple commit suicide after feeding daughter with pesticide-laced food

DHARMAPURI: A couple committed suicide near Pappireddipatty in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu by consuming pesticide on Tuesday evening after feeding their one-year-old daughter with pesticide-laced food. The child, Kanishka, was admitted to hospital where she was battling for her life, police said.

The deceased has been identified as P Saravanan, 34, of Menasi and his wife Aruna, 28. They got married three years ago, and Kanishka was born to them in 2018.

The couple used to quarrel regularly. On Tuesday evening, a relative of Saravanan came to their house. He knocked on the door for a few minutes. When there was no response from inside, he peeped through a hole and found the trio were lying on the floor.

On being alerted by the relative, the Pappireddipatty police rushed to the spot and broke the door open. They found the bodies of the couple lying on the floor while the toddler was battling for her life.

The police rushed Kanishka to Salem Government Super Specialty Hospital.

The police registered a case.
