'Top-seed' Indore eyes max points in Survekshan 2020

Indore: The title race begins… and like Brazil bends it in world football, Swachh Indore is ready to broom it to the top in cleanliness survey for fourth time in a row. Despite the pressure of being the favourite and changes in ‘format of the game’, civic body officials are confident of securing maximum points under Survekshan 2020.

Officials are already on their toes with start of quarterly survey. Documentation through Monthly Information System (MIS) is on and it is to be followed by self-declaration of both garbage-free star ratings and open defecation free (ODF) double certification. The main survey is scheduled in January 2020.

IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh said that all 19 zones of city have been distributed among four additional commissioners.

An instruction in this regard has already been issued to all four additional commissioners giving them additional charge of selected zones for implementation of measures proposed under Swachh Survekshan 2020 for sanitation, ODF, community toilets and public toilets, implementation of 3R principles and star rating protocol. “All of them have been asked to visit respective zones from early morning to monitor cleanliness and sanitation measures,” said commissioner.

He said that the city meets most of the criteria of this year’s survekshan and their stress is on heritage conservation, river cleaning, implementation of 3R principles and consistency in maintenance of toilets. “These are the key areas proposed under Swachh Suvrkeshan 2020 and require focus,” he added.

Officials said that recycling of waste water generated from faecal waste and reuse of all byproducts from treated waste water is also in their priority list as it is additional criterion for obtaining maximum star rating.

“The distinctive feature of this survey is that it ensures non-stop survekshan with no burden on ULBs, encouraging them to improve their ranks in each quarter to get better average score,” they said, adding that they have to be cautious about the data as assessment also includes clause for negative marking if data or information is found wrong.

Once the documentation is complete, it will be submitted with self-declaration document to state government. Then it will be forwarded to the Centre for verification.
