Training on local body polls held

Madurai: State Election Commissioner R Palanisamy organised a training on local body elections with the district collectors of Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar and Dindigul on Friday. Apart from collectors T G Vinay, Pallavi M Baldev, A Sivagnanam and M Vijayalakshmi, officials from revenue department took part.

All officers involved in election process should go through the rules of elections in the guide of Tamil Nadu State Election Commission and be thorough with it. Elections will be conducted for 10,6450 panchayat ward members and 12,524 panchayat presidents.

Elections will be conducted for 12,820 wards in 15 corporations and 121 municipality wards. He said the officials should be ready to get doubts cleared about the process of elections through the meet. All steps should be taken to ensure a smooth election.

All arrangements should be made in polling booths to make them friendly for all voters including physically challenged persons. The polling booths should be equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor the polling process, he said.
