Tripura Schools To Remain Closed Till April 27 Due To Heatwave

Due to a severe heatwave in Tripura, the government has announced the closure of all schools in the state from April 24 to 27, as confirmed by an official on Wednesday. Over the past week, the state has experienced intense heat and humidity, with these conditions expected to persist.

Agartala, Tripura's capital, recorded a high temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, while Kailashahar, another major town, reached 36 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department forecasts temperatures ranging from 28 to 38 degrees Celsius across most districts in the upcoming days.

The state education department issued a notice asking all district education officers to convey the message to schools under their jurisdiction. Tripura’s Additional Secretary, Education (School) Department N.C Sharma said that given the prevailing heat wave and in pursuance of the advice of the Revenue Department, the state government has decided that all government, government-aided, and privately-managed schools would remain closed from April 24 to April 27.

“In response to the prevailing heatwave throughout the state and in pursuance of the advice of the Revenue Department, Govt of Tripura dated 23/04/2024, it has been decided that all the Government and Government Aided Schools under Education (School) Department, Govt. of Tripura, Schools under TTAADC and Privately Managed Schools will remain closed w.e.f. 24/04/2024 to 27/04/2024. Heatwave Safety Measures in Tripura: The state's Revenue Department issued a public advisory on Monday, urging people to avoid sun exposure between 10 am and 3 pm due to the intense heat.

In addition, the government instructed district administrations to activate emergency operation centres and quick response teams for potential crises. Farmers were advised to maintain irrigation for summer maize, pulses, and other crops and vegetables.

The Revenue Department also directed all district disaster management authorities to conduct comprehensive heat awareness campaigns through various media channels. They were tasked with updating the public on weather conditions, providing safe drinking water and shaded areas in public places, and ensuring medical support for vulnerable communities within their districts.
